Indiana Jones V

ENTERTAINMENT - In an interview, Harrison Ford says George Lucas is currently thinking up Indiana Jones V. Harrison Ford has already agreed to reprise his role in Indiana Jones V and VI.

"It's crazy but great. ... George is in think mode right now [about Indiana Jones V]. It's automatic, really, we did well with the last one and with that having done well and been a positive experience, it's not surprising that some people want to do it again," says Harrison Ford.

George Lucas at the Cannes Film Festival confirmed there will be a fifth "Indiana Jones" movie. He and director Steven Spielberg have left the door open for a sequel to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Less than three months ago, George Lucas was hinting that his Indiana Jones franchise might continue on with Mutt Williams (Shia LaBeouf) as the main character and that Indy (Harrison Ford) would be more of a secondary figure. But Lucas has been listening to what the fans want and has had a change of mind and instead plans to make a fifth installment with our beloved hero still in the lead. During promotions for the new Star Wars: Clone Wars movie, Lucas stated that, "Indiana Jones is Indiana Jones. Harrison Ford IS Indiana Jones. If it was Mutt Williams it would be 'Mutt Williams and the Search for Elvis' or something."

"And it’s not like Harrison is even old. I mean, he’s 65 and he did everything in this movie. The old chemistry is there, and it’s not like he’s an old man. He’s incredibly agile; he looks even better than he did 20 years ago, if you ask me," says Lucas.

Fans' dissatisfaction with Mutt/Shia LaBeouf's have made it clear fans won't tolerate the franchise being warped. Perhaps Lucas came to his senses about how much more money the film would make with Harrison Ford as the star. Lucas says that he has people researching possible artifacts/places to base the movie around.

Possible locales/artifacts:

Shangri-La or Shambhala, the hidden utopian paradise in Tibet. (Possibly with ex-Nazis and Chinese Communists working together.)

Easter Island (archaeologists still don't know for sure what those huge statues are for).

Egypt, the Valley of the Kings (a return to Egypt would be nice).

England and Wales (Avalon and Excalibur?)

Most fans don't care whether its Communists or Nazis involved, just so long as its not aliens again. (Sorry for the spoiler if you haven't seen Kingdom of the Crystal Skull yet.)

There was Nazis who escaped to Argentina, Brazil, Canada, the United States and Australia. Perhaps there is room for ex-Nazis?

There is also a rumour circulating of an Indiana Jones animated TV show, using the same studio that produced Star Wars: Clone Wars and Samurai Jack. The show would feature Indiana Jones' adventures during WWII.

  1. I really liked the idea of the last Indiana Jones, even though at first I was sketchy about the Roswell connection. Indy always seem to be associated with more mainstream, religious icons rather than occult type figures. BUT, the way Lucas and Spielberg played it out in the last film was perfect and still played up to the quest Indy has always been on--the search for truth.

For that reason, I've considered an idea that I would find REALLY intriguing, and I do believe others would as well. It's an archeologists dream and has been for centuries. It would only be right for Indy to go searching for this. In fact, back in the late 90's when I first heard of the Roswell connection to Indy, I here this same set of ideas, about an evil twin brother, or just brother, that shows up to challenge Indy to the ultimate discovery of all time.

How about INDIANA JONES AND THE LOST CONTINENT OF ATLANTIS? In this story, Mutt, Henry Jones, Jr. gets kidnapped by a rogue, unexplain vigilante of sorts, while on a school funded expedition to Argentina. Henry, Sr., aka Indy, with mom Marion, have to embark on a rescue mission that takes them all over Central and South America, trying to find Mutt. When they finally come across him, Indy comes face to face with someone he never thought he'd see again, his step-brother Lucas (Octavian) Jones, that wears an eye patch (and for good measure have Tom Selleck play the part--full circle from Raiders). Octavian has found the secret necessary to unlock the location of Atlantis, with help from Ex-Nazis, now known as The Brotherhood of the Aryans. The Nazis want to bring Atlantis back to the surface and exploit the technologies of the ancients from that civilization to finish Hitler's conquest of the world and establish a Fourth Reich with Fuehrer Claus Von Buerer and dominate the world with a revived Aryan/Atlantean Race.

In this film you could have Indy losing his own eye (to coincide with the Young Indy TV show), as a method of saving his son's life, plus you could introduce the power of Atlantis into the fold. For one, the island could move through time, shifting erratically while Indy and company try to find the last surviving member of the Atlantean Race to stop Octavian and the Brotherhood.

It's just an idea, but it coincides with the occult/alien type philosophy that Lucas has been exploring with the recent Indy film in 2008 and I would love to see Selleck show up as a villian. This could even be the film that establishes Mutt as the new Indy in the end, with Indy being injured. I love Harrison Ford, but he's getting to old to keep doing this. Passing it on to someone else is the only logical conclusion.

Just my thoughts, let me know what you think!
