Golfers and their endless search for accessories

Traveling On The Golf Course

Your golf cart is something that you probably have pride in as it's taken on the course. There are different sizes that you can see on the course as well as various styles. Some of them are personalized with fun paint schemes and accessories while others have the natural colors that are seen when the cart is purchased. One thing that all carts have in common is that they will need replacement parts at some point. Golf cart parts can be purchased online or at businesses that sell off-road vehicles. You might need to place an order for a specific part as some stores might not carry everything needed in stock.

The brakes are a common part that needs to be replaced on many carts. While you are on the course, you are likely slowing down for other players and trying not to drive at a high rate of speed so that you don't damage the cart. However, this can harm the brake system if you continue to keep the foot on the brake. If you begin to hear any noise coming from the brakes when the pedal is depressed, then you should consider getting them replaced as soon as possible. The battery is another common item that is replaced in most carts at some point. The tires are a component of the cart that you should watch as well. There could be debris on the course that you don't see that can get stuck in the tires. If you use the cart for other activities at home, then the chance of getting something in the tire increases.

There are accessories that you can purchase to make the cart comfortable to drive. A sunshade is an option ad helpful if you plan on being in the sun for long periods of time. You can also add a fan on the cart to help deal with the heat if you are playing on a warm day. A cover for the cart can help keep it clean and free of scratches. Other accessories include radio kits and seat covers. These items can be personalized depending on what color you like or what theme you enjoy.

Canadian women's hockey - why is it not televised more often???

This post has been moved to CardioTrek.ca:

Canadian women's hockey - Why is it not televised more often???

Russia loses the Olympics

Russia has lost the Olympics.

Why?

Let us count the ways.

#1. Russia lost a key hockey game against Finland and won't even get a single men's medal in hockey. By Russian standards if you don't get gold in men's hockey then you LOSE THE OLYMPICS. That is Russia's own measurement of success.

#2. Pussy Riot has embarrassed the Russian government by pointing out Russia's many human rights violations. (And to make matters worse the Russians sent cossacks to attack Pussy Riot in the street, and it was all caught on video.)

#3. The Russian gay community has embarrassed the Russian government due to Russia's crackdown against gay rights.

#4. Toilets. Apparently Russians don't know how to install a toilet in many of the unfinished hotels built in Sochi.

#5. Russia hasn't been winning as many medals as they want to. They aren't even in the top 3.

#6. Terrorist threats that never materialized has scared away many of the would-be tourists. The Sochi Olympics is a financial boondoggle.

#7. Russian construction companies owned by the Russian mafia pocketed a lot of the money that was to be used for building hotels/etc. As a result this financial boondoggle has embarrassed Vladimir Putin with the lack of financial oversight.

#8. A French newspaper accused the Russian and American judges on colluding together to keep other countries out of the gold and silver couples figure skating competition. The allegation was not proven, but it had a ring of truth to it.

#9. Political unrest in Ukraine is overshadowing the Olympics. The unrest is due to Russis trying to put economic pressure on Ukraine to not form stronger ties countries in the European Union.

Conclusions

The 2014 Sochi Olympics has shone a bright light on Russia's government corruption and Vladimir Putin's despotism.

Oh and Russians apparently suck at hockey.

Canadian Institute of Diversity and Inclusion releases video on Gays in Sochi

The Canadian Institute of Diversity and Inclusion has released a video promoting LGBT rights with respect to Olympic athletes, a public condemnation of Russia's anti gay laws.

Gay and lesbian rights have become centre stage at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics - largely because of Russia's new draconian communist era laws which have brought gay bashing back to the forefront of Russian politics.

Russia's new laws include:

1. Prohibiting pro gay demonstrations in the streets, such as gay pride parades, public protests, etc.

2. Anyone who shares / publicly promotes "homosexual propaganda" will suffer a fine of roughly $17,000 USD - which is so loosely written it includes men or women kissing in public.

3. Promoting "homosexual propaganda" in any manner which could be seen by children. (Because according to Putin, children might become gay if they see, hear or read anything removely gay.)

The video by the Canadian Institute of Diversity and Inclusion is making waves across Canadian and international media, making it clear that while Russian President Vladimir Putin is willing to take Russia back into the dark ages by limiting freedom of speech, freedom of expression and even the freedom to love.

Archery and Bowhunting booming in popularity

By Charles Moffat

Archery and bowhunting are booming in popularity in North America - largely due to all the buzz about archery in movies like The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, Brave, The Avengers, Hanna and also TV shows like The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and Arrow.

This newfound popularity of archery - and by extension, bowhunting - has boosted the number of people doing archery dramatically.

Bows are flying off the shelves of archery equipment stores. Waiting lists for hard-to-find bows are getting longer and longer.

One young woman reportedly waited 6 months to receive her new handcrafted bow because the company in question was so overwhelmed by the sudden demand for archery equipment.

And it has been persistant.

Ever since the release of the first Hunger Games movie more and more women (and men too) are getting into archery. The fad - if you can call it that - is not slowing down. It is speeding up according to people in the industry. Every month the demand just grows and grows.

Archery stores like Tent City in North York, Bass Pro in Vaughan and even traditional archery stores like "Basically Bows Archery" on Queen Street East in Toronto are doing rapid business and figuratively raking in the dough.

An archery display at Bass Pro in Vaughan.
Adjusting a compound bow at Bass Pro in Vaughan to make sure it is square.
One archery instructor in Toronto reports that people are already booking archery lessons for June and July - partially because he is booked up for most of March, April and May. And this is just January - what would be considered a slow season for archery lessons.

Furthermore there are now more archery clubs than ever before, including Facebook groups like The Canadian Toxophilite Society (Toxophilite is an old fancy word which means a lover of archery). There is also archery blogs, which are becoming a welcome source of information for people who are new to archery.

Many new archers are hesitant to get into bowhunting, but the thirst is still there. One of the reasons to do so is because many new archers believe in ethical hunting, which is actually nothing new. Most hunters believe in ethical hunting - and believe that hunting for trophies is just morally wrong.

Many non hunters have difficulty grasping the idea that hunters believe so strongly in "ethical hunting". We've been raised in a media rich society that has pushed the idea that all hunting is wrong - ignoring the reality that humans eat animals and have always eaten animals since the dawn of cro-magnon man.

But The Hunger Games has brought to attention the fact that regardless of whether you hunt your food yourself, or whether you buy it in a grocery store (a la the fictional people of "the capital"), it is still killing animals for your food regardless. That realization has made many young people to rethink hunting and fishing when it comes to how they choose to get their food.

For example, a single moose would provide a family of three with enough frozen meat in their freezer for a year (not so much that they are eating it every day, but enough that they can eat moose meat regularly without getting bored of it).

In the past I have gone a more traditional route with my own meat. Once per year I buy a pig, pay for the butchering and I get enough ham roasts, sausages, pork chops, butt chops, etc to fill a freezer. By the time the year is over my freezer is almost empty and it is time to order another pig. That single pig provides a good chunk of my protein needs for a year.

Now imagine for a moment if I took up moose hunting with a bow. Or deer. Or elk. Or black bear. Or grouse, goose, duck, wild turkey. I could take my traditional approach even further by hunting the animals I eat during the year, pay for butchering, and stock my freezer accordingly.

It would, I realize, hurt farmers if everyone did what I am proposing. But not everyone is going to suddenly give up farm grown pork, beef, poultry, mutton, etc, so I think the farming industry will be perfectly fine.

I also want to note that you don't need a big expensive compound bow to get into hunting. You just need a bow that has the appropriate poundage (minimum 39.7 lbs for deer, minimum 48.5 lbs for elk, moose and black bear), a hunting license, and hunting tags.

That means that you can hunt with a traditional bow, like the Bear Grizzly bow in the video below.

Archery Lessons for Businessmen in Toronto

It is not just little kids who are getting into archery as a sport (thanks to the Hunger Games, Brave, The Avengers, Arrow and similar films/TV shows).

It is also adults and even people you wouldn't normally see doing archery - including businessmen.

That is right.

CEOs, bankers, investment managers, stock market analysts... your boss!

In other words people you would normally expect to be playing golf or tennis are taking up archery instead.

So does this mean that in the future many golf and tennis clubs will start offering archery ranges as an additional service?

Maybe. It is entirely possible.

In the meantime if you are looking for private archery lessons in Toronto check out the website CardioTrek.ca. Private archery lessons start at $60 for a single lesson, $270 for 5 lessons or $500 for 10 lessons. All equipment is provided by the trainer.

You can also go out and buy your own equipment and try to learn by yourself, but archery equipment (the good stuff) is expensive and the arrows alone are pretty pricey - and the learning process will be slow without an instructor.

Ontario government admits to dropping the ball on horse racing

The Ontario Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Ted McMeekin, has finally come clean to the Ontario horse racing industry that the ministry made a mistake by rushing the decision to end the Slots-at-Racetracks Program (SARP).

Why is this important you might ask?

Let me explain.

Years ago the OLG (Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp.) and the horse races were the only legal ways to gamble in Ontario. Then along came the casino in Niagara Falls and similar locations. Gamblers began to flock to such locations and the Ontario government realized that casinos were extremely popular and profitable, so why not have more of them? So they came up with a scheme wherein they offered to put slot machines at Ontario racetracks, so that gamblers could gamble at the slots 7 days per week and not have to travel that far to find legalized gambling. (The horse races do operate every day of the week, but not all racetracks have daily races. Instead many use tele-theatres for betting so gamblers can bet on races happening in the USA and even overseas in Australia, Japan, Britain, etc.)

Now to get the permission of the horse racing industry to have slots at racetracks, they sweetened the deal by agreeing to give them a share of the profits. Otherwise the horse racing industry would have been taking huge losses by allowing their competition to setup shop and not see a single penny of the profits when some gamblers choose slots over horses.

With time however what has happened is that the demographics of gamblers have changed. The people who bet on horses are typically older, often retirees or pensioners, and they are dwindling in numbers. In contrast the younger generations of gamblers want instant thrills and don't want to wait half an hour for a horse race to start. So as time progressed it eventually reached a point wherein the profits between the horse betting industry and the slots industry was split roughly 20 percent to 80 percent.

So much so that the slots was basically propping up the horse betting industry - and the horse breeding industry as a whole. Without the extra income from gamblers, horse breeders would have to either quit and do something else or they would need to move to a country that still has a robust horse betting industry.

So when Ontario government realized they were basically propping up an industry some idiotic paper-pushing bureaucrat apparently got it into their head that it would save the government a lot of money if they pulled out of slots industry and took all the slots away from the horse races, and effectively shut down both horse betting and horse racing - and horse breeding! - all at once, it was the result of penny-pinching bureaucrats not realizing what they would do to an entire industry.

Basically it would demolish it. Horse breeding isn't just about raising race horses. That is the thoroughbreds. But there is also a market for horses meant for hobbyists, show jumpers, and so forth that would be hurt in the process. If you remove a large chunk of the pie from an industry that is so interconnected it causes the other parts to wither.

So the Ministry of Agriculture began rushing through the whole process in their efforts to shut down both the slots and horse races... with their goal of driving the horse betting industry out of business, and then 1 year later, buying up the old land and reintroducing slot machines - except this time they wouldn't have to share profits any more.

What is more is that they have even admitted to doing this.

While conducting an interview, Agriculture Minister Ted McMeekin admitted his government "dropped the ball" on horse racing and stated that he hoped that the government would be "A little bit more collaborative then we’ve been. And that we’ll listen better than we have. And we will quit trying to wedge issues."

Now to be fair, the horse racing industry is now basically suing the Ontario government for deliberately trying to squash their industry - an industry which in Ontario effects about 55,000 jobs. That is like trying to shut down 3 or 4 automotive plants and not expecting them to protest.

One MPP issued a release on Monday stating that the Ministry of Agriculture "picked an unnecessary battle with the harness racing community and for what? To come back almost a year later and say ‘sorry I was wrong’? If the Minister had sat down, weighed the pros and cons and actually talked to those in the industry then we wouldn’t have had this crisis and he wouldn’t have to issue this mea culpa. [yada yada yada] ... start doing the research and listening to the people."

The bureaucratic decision to try and shut down horse betting/racing needlessly risked over 55,000 jobs in Ontario’s once thriving horse racing industry and alienated many rural communities.

Now we should also note that you can also do horse race betting online, so you technically don't need to go to a horsetrack any more to bet on such things (but its still fun to go if you just want to see the horses and make a few small bets). Such websites are typically for the USA horse betting industry, and also allow greyhound betting, betting on football, sports such as golf, tennis, cricket, rugby, motor sports, soccer, snooker, basketball, baseball, cycling, hockey, cycling, darts and even UFC.

And I suppose that just goes to show you that the USA just loves to gamble a lot.

"Arrow" extended preview sets the tone for Smallville replacement

For 10 seasons the TV show "Smallville" graced screens the globe and showed Clark Kent's rise from a lowly farm boy with only a handful of superpowers to the juggernaught that is Superman. The show aired from 2001 to 2011 and even before its finale the producers were planning their next big thing.

One of the most popular characters in Smallville was Oliver Queen (Green Arrow) who appeared in 7 episodes of the 2007 season and later became a recurring character in the 2008 to 2011 seasons. Played by Justin Hartley, the character's skill with the bow and martial arts made him (and on screen romances) a favourite with fans of the TV series.

So much so that it really is no surprise the producers decided to create their replacement for Smallville by making "Arrow". Below is the extended preview trailer for the new TV show.

Our First Thoughts?

#1. Yes, it is a different actor. But who cares? Justin Hartley has gone on to play to a med-student turned doctor in a medical drama (and he probably doesn't want to be typecasted as Green Arrow).

#2. The new show looks freaking awesome. No offense to the Hunger Games fans out there, but Green Arrow's skills make Katniss Everdeen look like an amateur.

#3. If its anything like Smallville then "Arrow" will be a smash success. And considering all the films about archery right now it will probably be pretty fantastic.

The Toronto Public Archery Range overflowing with New Archers

The Toronto Public Archery Range is overflowing with new archers in the wake of all the archery films that came out in 2011 and 2012.

A year ago you could go the archery range, also known as the Seton Park Archery Range, and on a busy day you might see 4 to 6 people there. But in the Summer of 2012 the numbers on a busy day range from 20 to even as high as 30 people there.

The range is so busy that on weekday mornings (eg. 9 AM Tuesday morning) there will be 4 to 6 archers there. What that tells you is that the sport has basically quintupled in popularity compared to a year ago.

WHY?

#1. The films: Brave, The Hunger Games, The Avengers, Hanna.

#2. TV shows: Game of Thrones, Arrow.

#3. The Olympics.

Call it a perfect storm of mass media, but archery is now the coolest sport a person can take up. It makes "paintball" and "frolf" look nerdy in comparison.

If you're interesting in getting archery lessons in Toronto check out the website Cardio Trek.

Legally Blind Korean sets Olympic record in Archery

A South Korean man who is legally blind has set a new record in Olympic archery.

In Friday’s ranking round, Korea’s Im Dong-Hyun broke the 72-arrow record he had set in Turkey in May by three points with a score of 699 and combined with teammates Kim Bub-min and Oh Jin-hyek, smashing the record for 216 arrows with a total 2,087. That was 18 better than the mark South Korea set in May.

Not bad for an athlete who says he just aims for a “blob of yellow colour” 70 metres away because he’s considered legally blind with 10% vision in his left eye and 20% in his right.

“It’s just the first round so I won’t get too excited about it,” he said.

Meanwhile Canadian Crispin Duenas had a score of 678 and came in 8th place in the opening round. If he can stay in the top group as the eliminations continue he will have a shot at a medal.

“I accomplished the underlying goal of today,” said Duenas, who will face Egypt’s Ahmed El-Nerm in the round of 32 on Monday. “The main goal was just to do my shot, which I’m going to say I did about 80 per cent of the time, the other 20 per cent would have put me up in the top five.”

Learn more about Crispin by reading Canadian Archers at the Olympics.

Archery is the hottest sport this Summer

Talk to anyone who is in the business of selling archery equipment and they will tell you that archery equipment sales are through the roof.

Why?

We blame the film and book industries (and Disney). Books and comicbooks being turned into movies in the form of:

The Hunger Games
The Avengers
Brave

If we go further back we might also blame various TV shows like Archer, Smallville (with the character Green Arrow) and others. Archery apparently is now in vogue.

So it really comes as no surprise that sales of archery equipment are through the roof in North America.

But what happens if you've decided to take up archery, but you need an instructor to teach you?

Well if you are in Toronto you can get an archery instructor for $40 for 2 hours. No equipment necessary. Or bring some friends and it is $50 for 2 people or $60 for 3 people.

Feminism: When will we finally be equal?

By Suzanne MacNevin.

I had a comment on a different blog (Feminist Truths) a few days ago from a loser claiming that men are the unequal ones.

Ha.

Here is some interesting facts for those people who don't yet realize it just how unequal women still are:

#1. Women Make Less Than Men

It varies by country, but in the United Kingdom (the birthplace of modern feminism) women still make 14.9% less than men. In other countries the pay gap is significantly worse.

The following map shows the pay gap between men and women on a global scale.

Scandinavian countries and Australia apparently lead the way in pay equality, but there is still a long way to go.

#2. Education

According to a new report women in Ireland are more likely to have higher qualifications than men - but work fewer hours and earn less. The report found that women do better at university and college, but have difficulty finding work because of sexism in hiring practices and in the workplace.

#3. Athletics

Women are not allowed to compete in the four-man bobsled race in the Olympics. Why? Is there a rule against having four-women bobsled teams? WTF. If there is an event for men, why isn't there one for women?

There is also no women's ski jumping either. Why? Women can jump off an icy cliff on skis just as easily as a man can.

Women's sports in general are difficult to find, let alone sports which allow women to compete on equal footing. ie. Motorsport allows women and men to compete together. I think its because men will get upset and their egos hurt if women beat them in a fair competition.

Check out the Katherine Legge Story video below.

#4. Societal Expectations

Men are expected to have a career, be financially independent and raise a family. Why shouldn't women be expected to do the same thing?

#5. Politics

Can you name a country where men and women politicians are on equal footing? Even in Sweden men have 53% of the seats in parliament and Sweden is an oddity compared to the rest of the world where women are rare in politics.

#6. Treatment

Women may be equal in some countries in terms of the laws, but we're not equal in terms of how women are treated and viewed. We still have a long way to go before people realize that what is between our legs makes no difference on our abilities to accomplish goals and that we deserve to be treated and judged based on our actions.

Vancouver riots after hockey loss

CANADA/ENTERTAINMENT - The Vancouver Canucks lost last night 4-0 to the Boston Bruins.

It was shameful for Vancouver to lose, but what is truly shameful is what happened after wards.

The burning cars, looting, violent street fighting, tear gas and general mayhem. Words cannot fully describe the chaos and destruction that resulted from this loss, from a mere hockey game. Guaranteed that if Boston had lost they wouldn't have even made a fuss about it. But in Vancouver, where the media had put too much stress on the possibility of winning, hockey fans are so neurotic that they're one shotgun away from becoming mass murderers.

Okay, we're exaggerating the last bit... but the metaphor speaks for itself. As does the photos and videos of the destruction.

Macho Man dies in car accident

ENTERTAINMENT - Randall Mario Poffo, aka Randy Savage, aka the Macho Man, the legendary professional wrestler known for his deep raspy voice, sunglasses and bandannas, has died in a car accident earlier yesterday (May 20th) when his car went across oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a tree in Florida. He was 58.

Police believe he may have suffered a heart attack or stroke, causing him to lose control of the car. Officials need to perform an autopsy to know for sure.

A woman in the vehicle, Barbara L. Poffo, 56, Randy Savage's current wife, suffered minor injuries. Both were wearing their seatbelts.

“Poffo will be greatly missed by WWE and his fans,” said a statement from the WWE. “Our sincerest condolences go out to his family and friends. We wish a speedy recovery to his wife Lynn."

At 6'2" and 237 pounds, Randy Savage was a charismatic wrestler known for his “Oooh Yeah!” catchphrase. He was a champion wrestler in Vince McMahon's World Wrestling Federation, and later Ted Turner's now-defunct World Championship Wrestling. He wore the championship belts many times during his career. He had retired from wrestling in 2004.

For much of his career, his manager/companion was Miss Elizabeth. Elizabeth Hulette was his real-life wife, but they later divorced, and Hulette died in 2003 at 42 in a prescription drug overdose. Many performers in the WWE die young, even those not wrestling.

To name a few...
Curt (Mr. Perfect) Hennig, died of a cocaine overdose in 2003 at 44.
Chris Benoit, killed his wife and son and then committed suicide in 2007, age 40.

Randy Savage was known for his flying elbow off the top rope move, often mimicked by amateur wrestlers everywhere. He was also known for his rivalries and friendships with Hulk Hogan, Ricky Steamboat and Ric Flair.

Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson calls Randy Savage as one of his childhood inspirations and heroes, while Mick (Cactus Jack) Foley says Savage was “one of my favourite performers.”

“He had so much life in his eyes & in his spirit, I just pray that he's happy and in a better place and we miss him,” Hulk Hogan writes.

Note: The WWF changed their name to WWE years ago after losing a lawsuit from the World Wildlife Foundation.

Before becoming a wrestler, Randy Savage was a minor league catcher in the 1970s for St. Louis and Cincinnati. His father, Angelo Poffo, was a longtime wrestler, and his brother, (Leaping) Lanny Poffo, was also a 1980s WWF favourite.

During and after his wrestling career Macho Man appeared in a number of TV shows and films, including Walker Texas Ranger, The Weird Al Show, Baywatch, and the 2002 film Spider-Man as the wrestler Bonesaw McGraw. He also did voice acting for a variety of animated shows including Family Guy and King of the Hill.

Pillow Fight World Cup

ENTERTAINMENT - A few years ago we published an article in the Entertainment eZine about the Pillow Fight League.

At the time we just thought it was an amusing oddity.

But by now the Pillow Fight League has become rather professional... to the point that they are now hosting the first ever Pillow Fight World Cup.

Sounds like fun to us!

A week ago we were contacted by Christian, who is working on a film about the first Pillow Fight World Cup event. Christian is also a member of a team trained by Carola, an Austrian kickboxing champ who lives in Vienna. Their team of pillow fighters are going to New York for the first Pillow Fight World cup ever on May 17th 2011. Learn more about their team at www.apfl.at/vienna

Against the Austrian team will be 'Punk Rock Pillowfighters' from the USA, a team of Swedish pillow fighters and a lone pillow fighting girl from Japan.

There is also hopes to get two more contestants from India and Syria. Ideally they want there to be 8-10 teams competing for the gold in 3 weeks.

What we don't understand is how come they haven't managed to spin this into a reality TV show. Or maybe that seems too corporate and they want to keep Pillow Fighting on the grassroots level.

Kemonozume & Bamboo Blade

By Ai Lung Nguyen - August 2010.

ENTERTAINMENT - If you enjoy Japanese animation (commonly referred to simply as "anime") then two shows you might enjoy are Kemonozume and Bamboo Blade. We shall start with the latter because its more family-friendly. (See More Anime Reviews.)

Bamboo Blade is a show about a high school kendo team. Most of the team is female, but gender isn't really the issue in this show. Nor is it about girl power either. If anything its just a good wholesome show about friendship. We admit that sounds a bit drab and boring, but for some reason Bamboo Blade does it really well without annoying the viewer. The regular action sequences of kendo fighting are also pretty impressive... and anyone watching the show will feel inspired to want to try kendo themselves. Its just that good of a show.

Kemonozume takes kendo to a whole other level... its essentially a classic samurais vs demons scenario, but with several twists. The demons are known as "Flesh Eaters" because they have a tendency to transform when they get excited or angry and then eat whoever is nearby. The main character falls in love with a female Flesh Eater who is struggling to control her demonic tendencies and they run off together. Unfortunately their love life is strained because she can't get too excited because otherwise she will transform into a demon and eat him. Toss in a mysterious little monkey, a few robotic mechs, some wacky graphics and occassional nudity and you have a show which makes Mad Men look like a cheesy soap opera.

And the good news is that you can watch both these shows for free just by searching Google Videos. The music for the two shows above are also surprisingly good.

Bull jumps into stands, injures 40 people

ENTERTAINMENT - 40 people have been injured in northern Spain when a charging bull jumped into the stands around the bullring and attacked people, injuring 40 Spaniards.

The bull managed to get stuck and surrounded near the base of the grandstands and a team of quick-thinking men managed to loop a rope around the bull's neck and then restrain it in an unlikely tug of war.

The video shows an almost gravity defying leap on the part of bull, reminiscent of Danny MacAskill's bicycle stunts which are likewise gravity defying.

Toronto to build waterfront ice arena

CANADA - Toronto has decided to build an $88 million hockey and skating arena on Toronto's waterfront, near Commissioners St. and Don Roadway. $34 million has already been earmarked for the project. The city is comtemplating a bond (essentially a mortgage) to help pay for the rest of the arena plus additional funding from the Ontario government.

An user surcharge will help pay off the bond over a period of 30 years. The arena complex will include FOUR NHL-size ice rinks stacked above each other, spectator seating, restaurants, meeting rooms, an indoor track for running. The indoor arena will be ideal for tournaments and allow Torontonians to hone their ice skating skills even in the off season. The facility will act as a regional sports complex.

The building is designed to be environmentally sustainable (which is important since its build near the waterfront and can't be leaking waste into the lake) and may include an Olympic-sized rink for speed skaters and figure skaters (which would be great for if Toronto ever gets another shot at hosting the Olympics).

There is some concerns about migratory birds flying into the all-glass structure so there are also plans to make it more bird-friendly.
