It was shameful for Vancouver to lose, but what is truly shameful is what happened after wards.
The burning cars, looting, violent street fighting, tear gas and general mayhem. Words cannot fully describe the chaos and destruction that resulted from this loss, from a mere hockey game. Guaranteed that if Boston had lost they wouldn't have even made a fuss about it. But in Vancouver, where the media had put too much stress on the possibility of winning, hockey fans are so neurotic that they're one shotgun away from becoming mass murderers.
Okay, we're exaggerating the last bit... but the metaphor speaks for itself. As does the photos and videos of the destruction.
