POLITICS - The Obama administration has suspended all trials of suspected terrorists pending a 120-day review of the Guantanamo Bay detention centre and is circulating a draft executive order that calls for closing the notorious United States detention centre in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, within a year.
The draft order also would declare a halt to all trials currently underway at the facility, where roughly 800 detainees in the war on terrorism are held. It is not known when President Barack Obama intends to issue the order, but the temporary suspension of the trials has been issued. The draft order may take place after the review is completed.
The Bush administration created the detention facility after the September 11th, 2001, attacks.
