The black visor of Britain's most famous race car driver has been lifted and the identity of "The Stig", the anonymous test driver on Top Gear and trade secret has been revealed.
If you don't know what "Top Gear" is you must not like cars very much. Its the most popular car show in the world and also considered to be the most popular show on Earth with 350 million viewers. Its also the most downloaded TV show online.
The BBC tried to get an injunction from Britain's High Court, hoping to block the publication of an autobiography by The Stig himself which reveals his identity and his 7 years as The Stig. The injunction however was not granted.
Top Gear producer Andy Wilman says "the whole point of the Stig is the mystique." Revealing his identity ruins the thrill for everyone. The anonymous Stig creates a personality which is larger than life. A variety of humourous clips from the TV show depict The Stig on holiday, being dropped off as a package at the airport, etc.
And finally the spoiler... Ben Collins (aka The Stig) is a British professional race car driver with a highly distinguished career. He may not be Ayrton Senna (racing legend who died in 1994), but he's still incredible behind the wheel.
