CARS - Honda Canada is recalling 44,000 vehicles because of a faulty ignition interlock which breaks too easily and can result in the car rolling down a hill when the parking brake is not set.
The recall includes 18,000 Honda Accords, 21,000 Honda Civics and 2,000 Acura 1.7ELs, and 3,000 Honda Elements.
In the USA the recall includes 197,000 Accords, 117,000 Civics and about 69,000 Elements.
Globally the company is recalling over 1.4 million Honda vehicles, mostly from the 2003 to 2005 period. Some of the recalls effect cars as early as 1999.
Its evidently a kneejerk reaction to Toyota's recent problems and the 1 million vehicles which were recalled by Toyota.
Owners should expect notification and should contact authorized dealers for more information or can call 1-888-946-6329 for more information.
General Motors, Nissan, Ford and Chrysler have also been issuing recalls in recent months.
