Why?
Because McDonald's is opening a franchise right in the middle of the place. Visitors will now be able to much on double cheeseburgers while staring slack-jawed at old masters.
Actually that is not completely true.
The Louvre has been a tourist trap for generations and has an underground mall beneath the museum itself, so it technically won't be IN the museum. The mall connects to Rue de Rivoli, the busiest street in all of France.
8.5 million paying visitors come to the Louvre every year, and presumably quite a few of them will leave the Louvre's underground mall / tourist area a bit fatter.
This is nothing new to France, home to 1,100 McDonalds franchises, the 2nd largest market outside of the United States.
