CANADA - The Conservative Party of Canada is ignoring the H1N1 threat (despite the coming flu season) and is instead spending FIVE times more money promoting Stephen Harper's "Economic Action Plan".
Worse, that is not Conservative Party money they are spending, that is TAXPAYER'S money. $34 million dollars worth.
H1N1 is only getting $6.5 million in promotional advertising, warning people to wash their hands, their faces, avoid sneezing in public, be careful shaking hands and wiping your face, etc.
Who is going to benefit from ads promoting Canada's "Economic Action Plan"? Nobody. It isn't going to create jobs. It just basically promotes the current minority government.
Meanwhile the ad campaign to raise awareness about H1N1 and the approaching the flu season is sorely lacking. True, the virus isn't as deadly as people once thought, but in a worse case scenario we could see thousands of Canadians die from a epidemic.
In Canada, the United States and Mexico there has been 886 deaths so far... and its not even flu season yet, the time of year when people are most vulnerable.
Actually we're not doing too bad... in comparison South America has seen 1965 deaths from H1N1, including 285 deaths in the last 7 days. The reason? Public awareness in South America is less. People aren't washing their hands enough.
Remember SARS when it struck Toronto back in 2003? It killed 43 people in Toronto. That was nothing in comparison to what H1N1 is supposed to do, especially since its spread so rapidly. H1N1 is less deadly than SARS, but its more contagious and has spread all over the globe already. As of today 4041 people have been confirmed to have died from H1N1, including 448 during the last week.
So... ask yourself, what would cause more economic chaos? A percentage of the population, especially children, dying from H1N1? Or the Conservatives pre-election jitters causing them to spend so much on advertising promoting their own government?
Talk about raping and ignoring taxpayers.
