TECHNOLOGY - Last year Google introduced a new tool which combines email, chat, instant messaging and project-management software, called "Wave". Today Google announced they're scrapping Wave due to a lack of people interested in using it.
“We don’t plan to continue developing Wave as a standalone product, but we will maintain the site at least through the end of the year and extend the technology for use in other Google projects," one of Google's VPs said on a blog Wednesday.
If you've never heard of Wave, you're not alone. We haven't heard of it either until today. It does sound like an useful tool, the kind I would use every day... except my gmail account already includes email, chat, instant messaging and allows me to access other tools... Wave also allowed people to type conversations in real time, drop and drag attachments instantly and several other interesting functions.
So the question then is why didn't they just add project-management software and those extra functions to Gmail? Seriously Google, don't reinvent the wheel when you don't have to. Just make it better.
Hopefully these functions are eventually added to Gmail.
