Osama bin Laden's brother dies

POLITICS - The bin Laden family has announced the death of Thabet bin Laden, a brother to famed terrorist Osama bin Laden.

The family made the announcement today and the funeral was scheduled this afternoon in the holy city of Mecca. Thabet died Saturday but the family did not give the cause of death or his age.

Thabet bin Laden was just one of 54 children born to Mohammed bin Laden, a Yemeni immigrant who started the family's contracting business in the 1930s and built it into a multi-billion-dollar construction business.

The bin Laden family claims they cut all ties with Osama bin Laden in 1994, when Saudi Arabia stripped him of his citizenship after he called for the overthrow of the Saudi Royal family.

Fifteen of the September 11th hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, two from the United Arab Emirates, one from Egypt and one from Lebanon. None of them were from Iraq, Iran or Afghanistan.
